Just to forewarn you, Linden Hill Imports will be closed for the month of June. I have a family medical situation to deal with in the UK and will not be able to process and dispatch any orders from there. The store should remain open through June 1. Thanks for your patience.
Symptoms
If you are receiving order confirmation duplicates (possible up to 10 E-Mails), the cause may be technical difficulty along the delivery path. Either a network connection is having problems, or one of the computers along the route is very slow or having other system problems. Explanation Most mail delivery protocols and programs are conservative. If they are unsure whether a mail message was successfully passed along to the next computer on the network, the sender will try to send it again. If the message was passed along successfully the first time, the second attempt will produce a second copy of the same message, and you will likely receive both copies. On large networks such as the internet, a mail message must usually pass through several different computers before it reaches its final destination. This problem can potentially occur at any computer along the way. A synchronization problem in the SMTP mail delivery protocol, which is used by most mail programs on the internet, can make this error more likely; see the internet RFC document Duplicate Messages and SMTP . Unfortunately, this problem has no real solution, except to wait until the problem on the network is resolved. If this problem is chronic and doesn't seem to be associated with a more general network or computer problem, the mail delivery software on the computer in question may be misconfigured. In this case, contact the administrator of the computer. … Large IT entities like Square and Mac.com have flagging systems to detect "blooms" of such anomalies and usually have them repaired within 24 hours. If it is due to an intermediary, it may take a little longer for them to locate and contact the culprit entity before the problem disappears. Thank you for your patience. As of January 1, 2021 it is with great regret I have been forced to cease processing orders from UK retail customers. The only exceptions to this policy will be Linden Hill Decals sets, which currently can be sent in rigid envelopes without customs forms, and books, which are not subject to UK VAT (yet).
The reason for this is the new post-Brexit HMRC regulatory regime introduced by the UK Government on January 1, 2021. As it stands now, non-UK established sellers must charge UK VAT on their sales to UK customers at the point of sale and will have ongoing VAT compliance obligations (VAT invoicing, VAT returns, VAT payments). There is no minimum VAT registration threshold for non-UK established sellers. VAT registration will be mandatory for non-UK established sellers from 1 January 2021 who make sales to UK customers. The UK is the only country in the world attempting to place the onus of local sales tax collection at the point of sale, regardless of where in the world that may be. In order to sell into directly to UK consumers we would need to register with HMRC and submit to their compliance obligations. For a small company like ours, this renders the cost and effort of doing business directly with UK customers untenable. If these new regulations affect you and you consider them unreasonable, I would urge you to contact your local MP about the situation. Sorry. I'm delighted to say that we've finally been able to launch this line in the US. We had been working on this since February but then the world stopped in its tracks.
I've now listed pretty much the entire line in the Web store. To get you acquainted with how to tackle using this innovative new product line, here's some advice from Quinta Studio: Linden Hill's production line has been somewhat quiet of late but that is due to change as summer approaches. I decided on a change of subject matter for our next releases and I'm also getting into book publishing. In addition to aviation, I have always had a fascination with polar exploration and the extreme hardships humans would be prepared to endure in order to 'conquer' this planet's icy wastes. When Special Hobby finally released their long overdue Sunderland GR. 5 kit last year, my thoughts turned immediately to the role these old flying boats played in supplying the British North Greenland Expedition (BNGE) in the early 1950s. It was when I started to dig out old references from my library that I realized that while a few articles had been published in the 1970s about the RAF's activities in Greenland, no single book dedicated to the subject matter had ever been published. In addition to creating decals for some notable 'Arctic Sunderlands' I resolved to fill that literary gap and thus was born 'Airlift to the Top of the World'! The decals are printed and set LHD72039 is all ready for release, however I have decided to delay release until the book is printed. The layout is now over 50% complete and, barring any unforeseen hurdles, I hope it will be printed in the next month or so. The book itself will be published in the US as Linden Hill is based here but it is written in British English! It will be printed in Canada and I will make sure it's widely available in the UK and continental Europe. I received a lot of help from generous sources in the UK and Denmark in completing it.
In the meantime and by way of a sneak peak, here's the blurb on the back cover of the book: "By 1950 it had been almost forty years since a publicly funded British polar expedition had been attempted. In contrast to the days of Scott and Shackleton, it was now possible to support such a venture with both motor and air transport. The British North Greenland Expedition (BNGE), a combined scientific and military venture to a remote region within 800 miles of the North Pole and headed by a Royal Navy Lieutenant-Commander, would not have been possible without the support of military aviation, mostly in the shape of the Royal Air Force’s Coastal and Transport Commands. This book examines the origins of the Expedition and for the first time tells the full story of the role played by the RAF in transporting the BNGE northwards, supplying it, supporting its scientific research work, and bringing it safely home. It is a story that includes both potential and actual calamities and details missions flown by the RAF in some of the world’s most extreme climatic conditions." After a quiet 2018 we're hoping to be a little more active with new releases this year. First up should be a new decal sheet in 1/48 and 1/72 scales. 'Post-Soviet Air Forces Update' will feature some very rare Tajik Air Force aircraft plus some interesting updates on post-Soviet Air Forces we've already covered earlier in the series (Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine). Aircraft to be covered include L-29, L-39, Mi-8, Mi-24, MiG-25RBF + RBT, MiG-29UB. Here's one of the subjects below. This is the Eduard L-29 kit carrying some test decals before we go to print. All paints used were AKAN. No release date is set as yet. Red 60 was one of a four-ship demonstration team of L-29s formed shortly after Ukrainian independence. They were some of the very first Ukrainian military aircraft displayed in public with national Ukrainian colors. The shots below were taken at the Gostomel Airport show in August 1993 (Photos by Sergey Popsuevich via Linden Hill Ltd.).
